About Us

Coon Creek Watershed District (CCWD) is local government formed by citizens petitioning in 1959 to be the local ditch authority over 92 square miles of land draining to Coon Creek in central Anoka County. In 2012, we were given additional jurisdiction over 15 square miles draining to the Mississippi River in Coon Rapids, Fridley, Blaine and Spring Lake Park for a total of 107 square miles. Our Mission

To manage surface water and groundwater systems and contributing lands to provide for and balance the competing uses of development, drainage, flood prevention, and the protection and restoration of water quality and habitat for the benefit of our communities now and in the future.

How It Works

Watershed districts have the legal authority and obligation to develop and manage a uniform program of water and related land management under the Minnesota Statute 103D Watershed District Act and the Minnesota Statute 103B Metropolitan Water Management Act.

We are currently updating our Comprehensive Water Management Plan!

Besides a Board and Staff, we have a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and a Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC) who advise on budgets, projects, proposals.
